Swimmers Split Results in Home Opener

WENHAM, Mass – Gordon Swim team's second meet of the season resulted in a second place finish for the Women's squad in a three team contest, while the Men's team came up short against the Elms College Blazers, falling 133-114.

The afternoon was started for the Fighting Scots with a strong second place finish to Simmons College for the Women's "A" team in the 200 Yard Relay Medley. On the Men's side, Gordon's "A" squad loss to Elms by a finger's length with sophomore anchor Cameron Schofield (Middleboro, Mass.) reaching the wall milliseconds behind his Elms' counterpart Aaron Starke.

Gordon swimmers showed strength in individual competition as well.

Sophomore Andrew Lewis (Mystic, Conn.) and freshman Dean Drukker (Bedford, N.H.) took first and second place in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle competition. Freshmen Daniel Fauber (Granburg, Texas) claimed the race in the 200 Yard Freestyle with Cameron Schofield taking the 50 Yard Backstroke.

Fauber continued his strong performance, shaving a half a second off his 100 Butterfly time only weeks after setting a conference record at the Roger Williams Invitational. His time of 54.94 edged out Elms' Keegan Goan and his teammate Brett Johnson (Easton, Mass.).

For the women, Junior Katherine Zablocki (Walnut Creek, Calif.) beat out Simmons' Jordan Mattheisen in the 50 Yard Breaststroke while sophomore Emily David (North Kingston, R.I.) commanded the pool in the 50 Yard Backstroke competition.

The day ended with strong team performances from both men and women in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with both squads coming away with second place finishes in the pool.

Simmons proved to be too tough for both teams on the women's side, but the Gordon ladies picked up a solid early-season win 143-108 against Elms.
