Kratche's 27 Points Leads Scots over Fisher

Box Score
LYNN, Mass. – Gordon Women's Basketball picked up their second win of the 2013 season with a complete-game effort over host Fisher College. The Scots outscored the Falcons in both halves on their way to a 69-62 win in their first game away from the Bennett Center.

The two teams traded the lead back and forth several times to start the game, as a two-point lead was the largest differential for either team over the first seven minutes. Tied at 13 points apiece, the Scots put together a 13-5 run to build up their biggest lead of the first half.

Fisher tried to creep back within striking distance, but Gordon's cushion never fell below a five-point lead, as the Scots led the Falcons 35-29 at the halftime break. The Scots only shot 37.5% in the first half, but their suffocating defense held Fisher to a 13-43 performance from the field over the first 20 minutes of play.

The Falcons went on a run of their own to begin the second half, cutting the deficit to three points. However, that would be the closest Fisher would get for the rest of the game.

Gordon's offense went on a tear over the next five minutes, opening up a 13-point lead at the 10:45 mark in the second half after a Lauren Kranyak jumper in the lane. The Scots (2-1) extended their lead to 14 points with eight minutes to play on a deep jumper from CCC Player of the Week Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Falls, Ohio).

The Falcons (1-3) cut Gordon's lead down to as many as five points late in the game, but the Scots' defense held on for the 69-62 victory over the NAIA opponent.

Kratche led all scorers with 27 points and she added her second double-double of the year with 11 rebounds. Kratche was efficient on the offensive end for the second straight game, going 13-21 from the field despite getting into foul trouble.

Point guard Mariel Barner (Colorado Springs, Colo.) pitched in her first double-digit scoring performance of her sophomore season with 13 points. Barner also dished out a team high six assists.

After playing sparingly due to injury in a loss to Drew on Saturday, Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) filled up the statsheet with a 12 point, 14 rebound, five assist performance off the bench.

The Scots are back in action on Tuesday evening with another road contest, against Salem State.
