Scots Battle But Come Up Short In Final Regular Season Game

Box Score
Hosting the Bison of Nichols College in their final game of the 2012-2013 schedule, the Fighting Scots battled but in the end came up short, falling 76-63 to their guests to round out the season at 3-22 overall, 1-17 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Bison close their campaign at 7-18 overall, 4-14 in conference.

In her final game in the black and green, Nichols senior forward Hayley Zophin (Framingham, Mass.) paced her team's win with an impressive 27-point, 11-rebound double-double, while fellow senior guard Kristina Lindgren (Sturbridge, Mass.) and junior guard Kasey Pelletier (Dunstable, Mass.) recorded 14 points, three rebounds each and senior guard Natalie Wilson (Bedford, N.H.) added eight points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.

The Bison shot 40 percent from the floor (23-57) including 52 percent in the second half (12-23) and 78 percent from the stripe (28-36) on the night.

Gordon's effort was led by junior forward Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) with 27 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists and sophomore forward Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) with 17 points, nine rebounds. Junior guard Skylar Bareford (Stonington, Conn.) added 12 points in the outing.

The Scots took an early 9-2 lead and maintained their advantage for the remainder of the first half, stretching it to as many as seven before heading into the locker room with a one-point edge (25-24).

Nichols opened the second half by overtaking the Scots' lead off a pair of free throws from Zophin at 19:46. Kranyak responded at the other end with a jumper in the paint from Kratche to take back the advantage, to which Nichols' Lindgren answered with a three to once again tip the scales. Kratche and Kranyak then combined for the next 10 points to give Gordon an eight-point lead (37-29) at 15:11. The Scots held steady to that lead until the 8:31 mark when Kratche fouled out, opening a window for Nichols to go on a 19-2 run to establish a healthy deficit Gordon was unable to overcome.

Of their 28 made free throws in the game, the Bison converted 26 of them in the second half to secure the 13-point win.
