Scots Earn 10 All-New England Nods, Break 20 Records At Collegiate Championship


FEBRUARY 10
In the final day of competition at the New England Collegiate Championship, the Fighting Scots tore down eight school records and earned three All-New England nods en route to finishing 13th of 22 on the women's side and 8th of 11 on the men's to close out the 2012-2013 season.

Joshua Florez (Fr./West Hartford, Conn.) started by breaking the 200 breast record in the preliminaries only to outdo himself later in the day with an All-New England 2nd place finish (2:10.08) in the same event. Cameron Schofield (Fr./Middleboro, Mass.) also scored an All-New England nod in the 100 IM with a 59:20, while both he and Florez joined Austin Drukker (So./Bedford, N.H.) and Brett Johnson (So./Easton, Mass.) to break the 200 medley relay mark with a 1:43.38. Additionally, Andrew Lewis (Fr./Mystic, Conn.) continued to shine in freestyle competition, setting new Gordon records in the 1000 (10:36.90) and 1650 free (17.27.68).

For the women, Emily David (Fr./North Kingston, R.I.) booked her second All-New England swim of the weekend by finishing 5th in the 100 IM at 1:04.07 and reset the Gordon record in the 50 back at 29.35. Together with Katherine Zablocki (So./Walnut Creek, Calif.), Nicole St. Martin (Fr./Westport, Mass.), and Julianne Kirkpatrick (So./Rochester, N.Y.) she also helped establish a new Gordon mark in the 200 medley relay with a 1:57.93.

Altogether the Scots recorded 10 All-New Englands and 20 Gordon records at the Championship.

FEBRUARY 9
Despite the morning preliminary events being canceled due to weather, the Fighting Scots took to the lanes with purpose to break another five Gordon records and earn three All-New England honors on day two of the New England Collegiate Championship.

Joshua Florez (Fr./West Hartford, Conn.) broke Gordon's 100 breast record with a 5th-place, All-New England finish of 59.89, while Cameron Schofield (Fr./Middleboro, Mass.) and Austin Drukker (So./Bedford, N.H.) also earned All-New England with 6th (59:18) and 7th (59:21) place results, respectively, in the 100 back. Schofield and Drukker later joined forces with Andrew Lewis (Fr./Mystic, Conn.) and Jesse Laniak (Sr./Matthews, N.C.) to replace the Gordon mark in the 800 free with a 7:40.83 time.

Emily David (Fr./North Kingston, R.I.) continued to standout for the Scots, breaking a 12-year old 100 back record (1:02.21) to take 7th overall for an All-New England nod before breaking her own 50 back school record with a 29.64. She also relayed with Julianne Kirkpatrick (So./Rochester, N.Y.), Katherine Zablocki (So./Walnut Creek, Calif.), and Nicole St. Martin (Fr./Westport, Mass.) to reset the Gordon record in the 800 free at 8:26.24.

FEBRUARY 8
On day one of the New England Collegiate Championship hosted at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt., the Fighting Scots broke several school records in the lanes and showed well against New England's finest swimming competition.

For the men, Cameron Schofield (Fr./Middleboro, Mass.) took 5th overall in the 200 IM to earn All-New England honors with a 2:06.51 result and later teamed with Austin Drukker (So./Bedford, N.H.), Joshua Florez (Fr./West Hartford, Conn.), and Brett Johnson (So./Easton, Mass.) to break the Gordon record in the 400 medley relay with a 3:48.75.

Earlier in the day, Florez overtook the school mark in the 50 breast preliminaries with a 28.30 only to reset the mark again on his second effort of the day with an All-New England 28.20, while Drukker earned an All-New England nod in the 200 back with a 2:06.17. Rookie Andrew Lewis (Fr./Mystic, Conn.) also had a standout afternoon in the water, breaking the school record in the 500 free with a 5:05.49.

On the women's side, Emily David (Fr./North Kingston, R.I.) started her day by taking down Gordon's 50 free record with a 25.66.

Championship action will resume first thing Saturday morning.
