Vikings Best Scots In Spring Season Showdown

Match Results
Hosting the Vikings of Salem State University in their lone contest of the spring season, the Fighting Scots were outmatched by their guests today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, 6-3, to drop to 4-10 overall on the year.

Hannah Damon (So./Mystic, Conn.) and Eva Kenna (So./Harvard, Mass.) picked up the Scots’ only win of doubles play, downing April McDermott (Fr./Tewksbury, Mass.) and Tara Garvey (Fr./Palma, Mass.) at No. 3, 8-5, to keep their team within reach heading into singles action.

Salem’s Michelle McEwen (Sr./Billerica, Mass.) and Jess Spinale (Sr./Saugus, Mass.) claimed the No. 1 doubles matchup over Lily Drescher (Fr./Reading, Mass.) and Jess Griffin (Fr./Wilmington, Mass.), 8-4, while Anna Yaskell (Sr./Stockholm, Sweden) and Lauren Woods (So./Burlington, Mass.) got an identical win at No. 2 over Gordon’s Jessie Dupre (Sr./North Billerica, Mass.) and Kristen Tenglin (So./Norton, Mass.).

In singles play, Damon stayed perfect  with a 6-2, 2-6 , 1-0 (10-7) decision over Yaskell at No. 3, and Tenglin picked up another three-set win at No. 5 over the Vikings’ Katie Razzaboni (6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).

Those wins proved too little too late, however, as Salem closed out the match with straight-set wins in the remaining singles contests to get their second win of the spring.

While the Scots are finished with their 2012-2013 campaign, Salem will host nearby Endicott College on April 25 at 3:30 p.m.
