Women's Tennis Handles Lions with 8-1 Win

Match Results
WENHAM, Mass. – The Gordon Women's Tennis team looked sharp in their first conference matchup of the season, earning an 8-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College on Wednesday. After a 2-1 start to doubles, the Scots rallied off all six singles victories for their third win of the year.

Junior captain Hannah Damon (Mystic, Conn.) and her doubles partner Eva Kenna (Harvard, Mass.) kicked off the scoring for Gordon with an 8-0 victory at third doubles. Damon and Kenna worked well as a team in their first action together, taking care of their opponents quickly.

Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) moved up one slot to first doubles. The duo won 8-2 over Sarah Layton and Tress Burrello to keep their win streak alive. Yeaw and Drescher remain undefeated on the year.

The Scots had their hands full at second doubles as a pair of freshman, Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) and Liann Van Volkinburg (Chillicothe, Ohio) teamed up for the first time in 2013. Caron and Van Volkinburg took control of the match early, but ENC's JuJu Atwater and Kelsey Waddle fought back to force the match into a tiebreak situation. There the Lions' second doubles team proved tough and took the match 9-8.

CCC Rookie of the Week Caroline Hall (Corona, Calif.) remained undefeated at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Yeaw picked up another win at the second flight without dropping a game as well.

Freshman Cindi Flynn (Sunset Beach, Calif.) picked up her first collegiate victory at the third singles spot in commanding fashion with a straight-set win over Atwater. Also picking up her first win of her career was Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.

Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) and Jessie Dupre (North Billerica, Mass.) continued their winning ways in singles with wins at the fourth and fifth slots respectively.

Gordon has no time to celebrate the win as they are back in action against a good Rhode Island College team tomorrow afternoon in Providence.
