Scots Sweep Vikings to Nab Sixth Win of Season

SALEM, Mass. – Gordon College won their third straight match, defeating host Salem State, 9-0 on Thursday afternoon at the Central Campus Tennis Courts. The win raises the Fighting Scots overall record to 6-3 while the Vikings slip to 1-2.


Gordon swept all three doubles matches, highlighted by Caroline Hall (Corona, Calif.) and Cindi Flynn's (Sunset Beach, Calif) 8-2 win at first doubles over April McDermott (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Katie Razzaboni (Hooksett, N.H.). Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) improved to 7-2 on the year with an 8-4 win at second doubles while Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) and Hannah Damon (Mystic, Conn.) picked up a third point at third flight doubles.

Hall registered a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at first singles to set the tone for the Fighting Scots. Yeaw, Drescher, and Flynn all won in straight sets at second through fourth singles respectively. Emily Yanchun ((Saugus, Mass.) won the only set of the day for Salem State,6-3 over Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) before losing, 6-1, and 11-9 at fifth singles. Damon finished the sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win at sixth singles.

The Scots' first and second doubles squads each picked up their seventh wins of the season in the contest. 

 
Gordon has one of their toughest tests of the season on the horizon—the team will travel to Nichols on Saturday for an 11:30 a.m. match against the Bison.
