HENNIKER, N.H. – Gordon College's Stephanie Bouillon (Greenville, N.Y.) would head in the game-winner in the 73
rd minute leading the Scots past the New England College Pilgrims 2-1 in women's soccer action Wednesday.
With the win the Scots improve to 8-1-0 overall, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 2-5-2 on the season.
The two teams would battle through the opening 29 minutes scoreless before NEC's Jessica Branum (Hartland, Vt.) would record her first collegiate goal grabbing a loose ball and firing over the head of Gordon keeper McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.).
The Scots would get the goal back just minutes later as Lauren Hayes (Wantage, N.J.) would tap in a nice pass from Kendra Woudenberg (Whitinsville, Mass.) in the 32
nd minute.
Gordon's Taylor McSherry (Wolcott, Conn.) would have an opportunity to put the Scots up 2-1 just before halftime but NEC keeper Tricia Sardagnola (Shrewsbury, Mass.) would turn away a breakaway shot keeping the game knotted at 1-1.
Both teams would have scoring opportunities early in the second half as NEC's Alyssa Krause (Northfield, N.H.) would fire a shot off the crossbar in the 53
rd minute and Gordon's Shelby Palafox (Lexington, Mass.) would do the same in the 63
rd minute.
Gordon would get the go ahead goal in the 73
rd minute of play as Woudenberg would strike a corner that would bounce off several players and eventually be headed in by Stephanie Bouillon.
The Pilgrims would come close to tying the game in the final minutes, as Krause would strike a ball that sailed just over the crossbar. Gordon finished the game out shooting NEC 7-3 and held the 9-5 advantage in corner opportunities.
Dion picked up the win in net finishing with two saves. While Sardagnola finished the game with three saves and Mackenzie Meegan (Phoenix, Ariz.) would tally two saves for the Pilgrims.
Gordon will hit the field on Saturday, Sept. 28 as well hosting conference for Eastern Nazarene College. Depending on the Lions matchup with Becker on Wednesday evening, both teams could be 8-1 entering a pivotal conference matchup this Homecoming weekend.
