WENHAM, Mass. – Bridgewater State overcame a 2-1 deficit in doubles by winning five of the six singles matches on the day to defeat the Scots 6-3 at the Brigham Tennis Courts. The Bears settled in after Gordon's hot start to the match and fought their way to the slight victory over the Fighting Scots.
Â
Gordon's sophomore match against the Bridgewater State Bears opened with a resounding win from their No.1 doubles team of Caroline Hall and Cindi Flynn. The first-year, California transplants coasted to an 8-1 victory over their counterparts, Jenna Williamson and Lauren Hopp. Hall and Flynn took the first three games of the match without a hiccup and claimed hold over their first collegiate win early to give the team their first point of the day.
Â
The second flight of Tawnie Yeaw and Lily Drescher quickly followed suit with an 8-4 victory over Ali Vautrin and Rachel Eramo. The sophomores were able to separate themselves after an exchange of games early in the set. Yeaw and Drescher are currently undefeated in the young 2013 season.
Â
As the match progressed and moved into the singles competition, momentum began to swing in the favor of the Bears. In the second ranking, Yeaw fell quietly to McGuirk (BSU) 6-0, 6-3; while in the third spot Drescher lost to Hopp (BSU) 6-2, 7-5.Â
Â
Top-ranked Hall has come into her own on the head court and improved to an 2-0 on the season in singles matches, taking Jenna Williamson comfortably in straight sets (6 - 2, 6 -1).
Â
Flynn, Rebecca Levy, and Abby Caron all fell in the fourth through sixth spots to settle the final score. Levy fought back after a tough first set to beat BSU's Melissa Flynn in the second 6-3, and forced a third set that was eventually won by the Bears No. 5 player. Â
Â
The final match score was an improvement from the Scots' 9-0 sweep at the hands of the Bears (1-0) a season ago and the coaching staff seemed pleased with the effort following the match. Gordon falls to 1-1 on the season and the team will look to rebound against the Worcester State Lancers on Saturday.Â

The women travel to Worcester State on Saturday morning for a noon tip. The match will be played at Wachusett High School due to court availability.Â
