BABSON PARK, Mass.—Gordon Swimming brought in the New Year with a tough meet against NESCAC powerhouse Babson on Saturday afternoon. The Scots raced well, but came up just short on both the men and women's sides—as the Beavers ended Gordon's combined six-meet win streak.
Â
Katherine Zablocki (Walnut Creek, Calif.) retrieved Gordon's first individual victory of the day in the 50-Yard Breaststroke. Zablocki has been dominant in the event all season, but she faced stiff competition from the Beavers. The junior was able to edge out Babson's Lily Yie by half a second to notch nine points for the team's final total.
Â
Emily David (North Kingston, R.I.) picked up an individual victory a few races later in the 50-Yard Freestyle. David's speedy time saw her finish nearly a full two seconds ahead of Kelly McCarthy for Babson. Paige Hammaker (Denver, Pa.) finished third in the event, but .8 seconds behind McCarthy for second place.
Â
David grabbed another win in the 50-Yard Butterfly with a time of 29.74. Nicole St. Martin (Westport, Mass.) finished only a few seconds after David and the Scots grabbed the top two spots in the race. Freshman Emily Sneddon (Centreville, Md.) swam a near-perfect race in the 200-Yard IM, finishing 30 seconds ahead of teammate Julie Lee (Taichung, Taiwan) for a first and second place finish.
Â
The Scots' ladies ended the day with a one-two sweep in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay, headedlined by St. Martin, Zablocki, Sneddon and David. Gordon was just edged out by Babson in the final points standings, 137-105.
Â
On the men's side, Dean Drukker (Bedford, N.H.) and Andrew Lewis (Mystic, Conn.) finished in the top two spots in the 500-Yard Freestyle with times of 5:35.76 and 5:40.51 respectively. Brett Johnson (Easton, Mass.) grabbed a win in the 50-Yard Butterfly and Daniel Fauber (Granbury, Texas) continued his strong season with a victory in the 200-Yard IM.
Â
The men finished with a 200-Yard Freestyle Relay win with Johnson, Drukker and Fauber all involved with the winning team, teaming up with lead Cameron Schofield (Middleboro, Mass.). Babson found success in the early events and handed the Fighting Scots a tough 144-81 loss.Â
