The match's venue was moved indoors from the Volvo Outdoor Courts on the WNE campus due to wet surface and threat of showers all day.
Western New England falls below the .500-mark for the first time all season at 5-6, including 2-5 in the CCC. Gordon, meanwhile, improves to 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
Western New England made Gordon work for all three doubles points to start the match. Freshman Christina D'Agostino and junior co-captain Kelly Byrnes lost a heartbreaker, 8-6, to
Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) and
Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) at No. 2. The Fighting Scots also won at No. 1 by
Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Sophie Linnell (Richmond, Va.) over freshman Lauren Sell and sophomore Joeanna Glantz, 8-4. New third combo
Nathalia Moran (Lake Villa, Ill.) and
Alexa DiDomizio (Mahwah, N.J.) wrapped up the sweep by defeating freshmen Alice Mathews/Jessica Breitweg, 8-3.
Gordon picked up five of the six points in singles. Yeaw, Linnell, Drescher, Caron and Moran won their matches at No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively, to make them double winners on the afternoon.
Freshman Holly Nelson picked up the Golden Bears' lone point with a 7-5, 6-3 win over
Liann Van Volkinburg (Chillicothe, Ohio) at No. 6 singles, improving to 2-1 at the position.
Western New England will have a short turnaround as it travels Thursday to West Hartford, Conn., to square off against non-conference opponent University of Saint Joseph. Gordon finishes its conference season on Saturday when it hosts Roger Williams at noon.
