Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fighting Scots Tame Bison in 3-0 CCC Win

WENHAM, Mass.—Hannah Midwinter (Barkhamsted, Conn.) scored two goals, one in each half, as Gordon Women's Soccer closed out visiting Nichols College 3-0 on the Quad. The Fighting Scots improve to 9-4 on the season and 3-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play, while the Bison dip under .500 at 6-7 and 2-3 in CCC action.

Gordon looked to gain control of the match from the opening whistle, earning five corners in the first 21 minutes of play, but Nichols' defense didn't allow a single attempt on frame during that span. Much of the first 35 minutes was played in the middle half of the field, as the defenses stonewalled each other and forced shots from distance.

The Fighting Scots were finally able to break through Nichols' defense in the 35th minute when Taylor McSherry (Wolcott, Conn.) sent a highly paced cross to Midwinter. The senior midfielder chipped back through the ball and ended up with the first goal of the match. Gordon added an important insurance goal just seconds before the halftime horn when Kaitlyn Hawn (Woodbury, Minn.) deflected a cross from Kaelyn Silveria (Bristol, R.I.) off a free kick from the corner. McSherry added her second assist of the game on the play as well.

Gordon outshot the Bison 7-1 in the period, but only the two scores were on goal.

Nichols got the first attempt of the second half on a good strike by Jillian Krish (Rockland, Mass.), but McKenzie Dion (No. Grafton, Mass.) was there for the stop. Naomi Shearer (Hampden, Maine) quickly countered the other way for a good opportunity, but she was met by Kelly English (Mansfield, Mass.) to keep it a two-goal game. Gordon kept up the pressure in the 52nd minute when defender Clarie Brooks (Unionville, Conn.) found Midwinter on a long ball past the Bison defense.

Nichols managed four shots on goal in the second half, but all were stopped by Dion to preserve the three-goal shutout. English made two saves for the Bison.

Gordon is back to non-conference play on Wednesday when they play host to Plymouth State in the final game of a four-match homestand. Nichols hosts MCLA on Wednesday as well, beginning at 4 p.m.
