Kratche's Double-Double Not Enough to Overcome Seahawks

Box Score
WENHAM, Mass.—An 18-point effort from Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) was not enough to overcome the explosive offensive effort from Salve Regina. Led by sophomore point guard Meaghan Harden (Sandwich, Mass.) the Seahawks pitched a 14-point lead at halftime and never looked back to take a 67-49 win over the Scots on a snowy Saturday afternoon.

Salve Regina came out of the gates with a balanced offensive effort, which relied on the inside-outside game of Harden and senior forward Marissa Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.). The two combined for nine points in the first five minutes of the game, as the Seahawks built an early 13-4 advantage.

The Scots (5-18) responded with a run of their own—outscoring the Seahawks 8-4—over the next five minutes to pull within four points of the visitors. Kratche was the go-to option in the early going and Salve Regina had no answer for the junior's quick release in transition.

Four points would be as close as the Scots would get to their rivals in the first half, as Harden and Pendergast scored 17 of the Seahawks' next 21 points to build a double-digit lead, 38-24, at the end of the first stanza.

The Seahawks capitalized on 13 first-half turnovers by the Scots and scored 15 points off them, compared to only two points of turnovers for Gordon.

Gordon and Salve played out a back-and-forth battle in the second half, but the Scots were never able to put a substantial run together. Every time the Fighting Scots put a few baskets together to creep within 10 points, the Seahawks countered with a little streak of their own.

Salve (12-11) built up as much as a 22-point lead late in the second half, but the Scots never stopped fighting until the final buzzer.

Harden was a difference maker for the Seahawks at guard. The sophomore came into the game as one of the hottest players in the conference over the past month and she notched a season-high 30 points—with 16 points coming in the second half. Pendergast had a quiet second half after putting up 12 points in the first half, but still finished with 17 points for the game. The senior also finished with a team-high four steals on the afternoon.

The Seahawks were able to limit themselves to 13 turnovers, while forcing 22 on the other end. They also were an impressive 18-for-20 from the line for a shooting percentage of 90 at the stripe.

For the first time in three games, Kratche and Fredi Nielsen (Bridgeport, Conn.) were on the floor together. Gordon's top scorers led the team once again with 18 and 13 points respectively. Kratche nabbed her fifth double-double on the year. Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) pitched a near double-double as well, finishing with 10 points and eight boards.

Gordon outrebounded the visitors 38-35, but got unlucky on several put-backs that went in and out. The loss puts Gordon out of CCC playoff contention.

The Scots close out their final week of the season with a trip to Roger Williams on Tuesday night before returning home next Saturday for a Senior Day matchup with Eastern Nazarene.
