MIDDLETOWN, Conn.— The Gordon College Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field teams headed to Connecticut on Saturday for their season opener at Wesleyan University. The Scots fared well on the track and in the field events on a seasonable March day, which was conducive to fast times and long throws.
Junior Zak Flowers picked up two first-place finishes in the hammer throw (46.66m) and the discus (37.01m). Freshman teammate Andrew Fiedler grabbed third in the discus with a throw of 35.79m.
For the women, junior Eleanor Ragon threw the hammer 30.54m, good for 6th place and a new Gordon school record.
On the track, the women were led by freshman Corrine Previte, who broke two records on the day. Corrine took him first place in the 400m with a time of 1:01.64, just nipping teammate Leanna D'Alfonso's mark from last year. D'Alfonso pulled in third with a 1:03.02.
Previte and D'Alfonso teamed up with sophomores Sarah Warne and Leanne Beedle for an exciting second-place finish in the 4 x 400m relay. The ladies' mark of 4:17.49 shattered the 2010 record by over 8 and a half seconds!
Beedle also came up big for the Scots, with a first place finish in the 1500m, running 5:07.68 en route to the victory.
On the men's side of the track, Colin Ponzani represented his team well in the 800m run, with a season-debut of 2:04.41 for third place.

Not to be outdone, Olson broke the school record in the 200m with a 23.61, good for fourth place.
