Women's ResultsNORTHAMPTON, Mass. —Gordon Outdoor Track and Field turned in another excellent showing with third and seventh-place finishes in the men's and women's standings. The Scots' field program continues to pile up accolades after an outstanding indoor season.
Zak Flowers (Fountain Valley, Calif.) once again led the Gordon men's team, taking first in the hammer throw and the discus. Teammate Ryan Williamson (Brewster, Mass.) garnered runner-up honors in the hammer, with a season-best throw of 37.56m. Flowers broke his own school record in the discus with a best throw of 42.45m, qualifying him for the D3 New England Championships. With his season-best hammer throw of 48.72m, he qualified for D-III ECAC's. He has already qualified for D-III NE's in the hammer. Flowers is currently positioned as the sixth-ranked New Englander in the hammer and seventh in the discus.
On the women's side, Corrine Previte (Danvers, Mass.) was first in the 400m in a school record 1:00.42, which qualified her for New England's. She also ran the first leg of the school-record 4 x 400m relay, which finished first (4:12.58). Previte handed to freshman Amanda Tarquinio (Londonderry, N.H.), who passed to Leanne Beedle (Bethany, Conn.), who handed to Leanna D'Alfonso (Gorham, Maine). D'Alfonso came from behind in the final leg to catch a tiring Smith anchor leg and closed for the win. The time ranks the Gordon women 14th in the region. Previte is 23rd in the 400m in New England.
The men's 4 x 400m relay moved to 22nd in the region with a school record 3:32.94 showing. Gray, Ponzani, Smith, Olson were the perpetrators, fighting off a hard-charging squad from Assumption College to seal the victory.
Wes Nelson (Charlton, Mass.) moved to 22nd in New England in the 3000m steeplechase, with a 10:24.88 first-place performance. Neal Olson (Acton, Mass.) lowered his own school best mark in the 200m by .02 seconds with a first-place time of 23.59s. Teammate Asher Gray (Sudbury, Mass.) was close on his heels in second place (23.81).
Freshman Colin Ponzani (Avon, Conn.) set the school record in the 400m, cruising to a 4th place finish in 52.84 seconds.
Other Fighting Scots of note were Alex Russell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) in the 1500 (1st, 4:27.83) and the 800 (2nd, 2:11.38); Andrew Kwiatkowski (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) in the 800 (1st, 2:10.40). For the women, Beedle came away with a win in the 800 meter run (2:25.32).
