Match ResultsWENHAM, Mass. —Gordon Women's Tennis concluded its 2013-14 season with a convincing 7-2 win over visiting Johnson & Wales. The victory marked a significant milestone for the program, as 13 wins ties the single-season record for victories.
Freshmen Caroline Hall (Corona, Calif.) and Cindi Flynn (Sunset Beach, Calif.) capped off their stellar rookie campaigns with an 8-3 win over Morgan Thompson and Stephanie Piperis. The freshman duo completed their first season in Wenham with the best doubles record in school history, at 15-5 in the top slot.
Fellow rookies Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) and Liann Van Volkinburg (Chilicothe, Ohio) overcame an early deficit to close out their opponents, 8-5, at third doubles. The Wildcats got a point back at second doubles when Gabrielle Longo and Emily Glass outlasted Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) in a tiebreaker. Yeaw, a sophomore transfer, and her classmate, Drescher, finished 13-9 between the top two doubles spots.
Due to cold weather, the two teams also played eight-game pro sets in singles play. Hall finished her year with an 8-2 win over Thompson at first singles. Hall went 19-1 at first singles during the season, with her lone loss coming in three sets at Endicott last September.
Yeaw also picked up an easy victory at second singles, which puts her at 15-6 for the season. She hit her stride at the end of the fall season and won 10 of her final 11 singles matches, including the spring season.
Rebecca Levy (Plymout, Mass.) won her eighth match of the year with an 8-2 results at sixth singles. Caron shook off two match points to win 9-8 (9-7) at fifth singles, while Flynn overcame a 4-1 deficit to win 8-5 over Longo at the fourth flight.
Glass completed a perfect day on the court with a swift 8-2 triumph over Drescher at third singles to pick up JWU's second and final point of the day.
