Fighting Scots Set Sail on High Seas at UMass-Dartmouth Corsair Invitational

Men's Results / Women's Results
DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Building off their successes during the winter season, the Gordon Track and Field teams completed another record-setting meet at the Corsair Invitational on Saturday. Chris Warne (Andover, Mass.) and Zak Flowers (Fountain Valley, Calif.) both set school records in field events to pace the men to a 12th place finish in the meet.

Warne's throw in the shot put of 11.75m was good enough for 17th place in the event and a school record to his name. Flowers, who was the story of the indoor season in field events, tossed the discus 40.10m, which landed him fifth place and qualified him for regional meets in May.

Flowers also earned second in the hammer with a throw of 47.34m. Teammate Ryan Williamson (Brewster, Mass.) had a season-best throw of 37.20m in his first meet back after suffering an injury during the winter. Freshman Andrew Fiedler (Wayne, N.J.) cleared 3.10m in the pole vault, which landed him fourth place at UMass-Dartmouth.

The 4 x 400m relay team of Ben Sebuufu (Amesbury, Mass.), Neal Olson (Acton, Mass.), Colin Ponzani (Avon, Mass.) and Asher Gray (Sudbury, Mass.) finished 5th in a time of 3:33.41. Sophomore Scots Nathan Swaim (Grafton, Mass.) and Wes Nelson (Charlton, Mass.) finished seventh and eighth in the 10,000m race with times of 34:13 and 34:49, respectively.

For the women it was Corrine Previte (Danvers, Mass.) stealing the show with a record-setting 1:01.39 in the 400m, which earned her 6th place and a spot at the NCAA NE DIII Championships in May. Previte was the lone female to compete in the indoor championships for Gordon during spring break.

Leanne Beedle (Bethany, Conn.) placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:28.46, while Mariah Geiger (Londonderry, N.H.) was sixth in the 5,000m in 19:53.63. She ran a last lap in 1:24 to break 20 minutes for the first time.

The women's 4 x 400m relay (Freshmen Previte and Amanda Tarquinio (Londonderry, N.H.) and sophomores Beedle and Sarah Warne (Andover, Mass.)) ran to an 8th place finish in 4:27.59.

With over 30 teams in attendance, the women finished 14th. Both teams are back in action this Saturday at Smith College in Northhampton, Mass.
