Match Box ScoreWENHAM, Mass.—For the second year in a row, the women's tennis matchup between Rhode Island College and Gordon came down to the final match. Tressa Cannata (Cranston, R.I.) came from behind to defeat Gordon's Nathalia Moran (Lake Villa, Ill.) in three sets at the fifth singles flight. The Anchorwomen remain unbeaten in 2014 at 5-0, while Gordon falls to 1-3 on the year.
Â
The match looked like a stalemate from the get-go, as the two teams split the first and second doubles matches. Sophie Linnell (Richmond, Va.) and Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) raced out to an early 7-2 lead at first doubles, but their opponents battled back to make things close. Gordon's duo managed to stop the rally and take an 8-5 win. Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, R.I.) and Kim Daigle (Sterling, Mass.) returned the favor with an 8-3 win at second doubles for RIC.
Â
Third doubles went back and forth, with an opportunity for an early lead in a tight match on the line. The Fighting Scots' Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) and Alexa DiDomizio (Mahwah, N.J.) jumped out to a 5-3 lead, but the Anchorwomen's third squad took five of the final six games to clinch an 8-6 win.
Â
DiDomizio rebounded in singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Jorgie Martin (Smithfield, R.I.) at the sixth spot. The Anchorwomen regained the lead a match later as Julie Reddy (Greenville, R.I.) took a three-set match over Caron at fourth singles. Campanella gave them a two-match lead with a straight-set victory over Yeaw at first singles, but Gordon was far from done.
Â
Linnell outlasted a talented Daigle at second singles 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) and Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) overcame a tiebreak loss in the first set to win at third singles over Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, Conn.).
Â
The stage was set for a deciding match at fifth singles. Moran cruised to a first-set victory 6-2, but a refocused Cannata evened things up with a 6-3 win in the second. The two players traded games in the beginning of the deciding set, but Cannata won the final three games of the match to clinch it for the Anchorwomen.

Gordon is back in action on Saturday at Wentworth, while RIC returns home for a conference opener with Southern Maine.Â
