Fighting Scots Earn Top Five Finishes at UNE Invitational

Men's Results
BIDDEFORD, Maine—The Gordon College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams had stellar showings at the University of New England Invitational on Saturday morning, with both teams sporting top five finishes at the meet. After a clarification in scoring, the Gordon men jumped to second place in the event while the Gordon women finished fourth behind conference foes UNE and Endicott.

Freshman Kasey Mann (Merrimac, Mass.) led the way for the Fighting Scots Women's Cross Country team for the second consecutive meet with a time of 20:17.6, good enough for 16th place overall. Gordon's approach of running as a team paid off with Mariah Geiger (Londonderry, N.H.) finishing just three ticks behind Mann for 17th place. The next runner to cross the finish line was also a Scot, as freshman Louisa Dodds (Hillsdale, N.Y.) registered an 18th place finish at 20:32.

Senior Jessie Fittro (Schenectady, N.Y.) was the next Gordon runner to finish the 5k race in 35th place overall and a 21:23.4 mark. Eliza Stiles (Berlin, N.H.) and Abby Chudnovsky (Shillington, Pa.) finished in 40th and 42nd place respectively, while junior Elizabeth Norcini (Paoli, Pa.) rounded out the scoring in 63rd.

On the men's side, freshman Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.) had the best turnout of the day by finishing sixth overall in the 8k event. The freshman finished just a few seconds behind fellow conference first-years Endicott's top runner Zach Marshall and Wentworth's Dan McSolla. Kilgore was the top finisher for the Scots in their first race of the season two weeks ago.

As he did in the Mayflower Invitational, Nathan Swaim (Grafton, Mass.) was the second Gordon harrier to cross the finish in 15th place with a time of 27:24.3. Wes Nelson (Charlton, Mass.) wasn't far behind in 22nd, just 31 ticks behind his teammate Swaim. Alex Russell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Andrew Manning (Amman, Jordan) finished in 26th and 30th respectively. Jed Meyers (Medford, N.J.) and Jack Gilbert (Potomac, Md.) completed the scoring for Gordon.

Gordon's next event is the annual Pop Crowell Invitational on September 27th beginning at 10:45 a.m.
