Match Box Score
WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Tennis gave defending CCC Champion Endicott (5-1) all it could handle, but the Gulls' sweep of the doubles courts gave them a 6-3 win in conference action. Endicott's Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) earned wins at first singles and first doubles to pace the Gulls attack, while Gordon took three of the six singles matches to keep things close.

The Fighting Scots (2-4) had become accustomed to finding their footing in doubles sets as a way of setting the tone for their matches. Endicott was able to get ahead early in each flight and took all three in convincing fashion. Heacox and freshman Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) got past Gordon's Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Sophie Linnell (Richmond, Va.) 8-3. Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) and Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) squeezed their way through second doubles, 8-2 and Endicott won handily at third doubles, 8-3.

Gordon got on the board with a quick 6-2, 6-0 win at second singles by the freshman Linnell, as she handled Reilly. Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) put the Gulls up 4-1 by fighting through a first set 6-4 and taking the second set 6-1 over Nathalia Moran (Lake Villa, Ill.). The Fighting Scots gained another point back at sixth singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win by Liann Van Volkinburg (Chillicothe, Ohio). However, Endicott's Heacox was able to sneak out a straight-set victory at first singles over Yeaw to clinch the match.

Newman defeated Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) at third singles 6-4, 6-3. Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) shook off a tough first set, but dominated the final two sets 6-2, 6-2 to earn the Scots' third and final point at fourth singles.

Gordon stays in the CCC on Saturday when they travel to Eastern Nazarene, beginning at 1 p.m.
