Hawks Fly Past Scots with Five Strikes

BRISTOL, R.I. —Top Commonwealth Coast Conference team Roger Williams scored five goals to beat the Fighting Scots in its final regular season home contest of the year. The injury-plagued Scots could not muster a goal against the regionally ranked Hawks after upsetting UNE earlier in the week.

Prior to the game, the Hawks recognized its five seniors, Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine), Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.), Jessica Valenti (North Reading, Mass.), Taylor Provost (Peabody, Mass.), and Carla Salcedo (Mexico City, Mexico) for their dedication to the program.

The Hawks had its offense working in the early part of the game, putting up four shots in the first 14 minutes of action. The fourth shot was the charm for RWU, with Kaiser scoring off of a long pass from Provost. Kaiser chipped a short shot over the goalie for her tenth goal of the season.

RWU nearly added another score in the 17th minute, when Kristen Casey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) launched a free kick from about 60' from the right side. Her shot sailed over everyone and hooked it into the left corner, but unfortunately for RWU, an offsides call was made against the Hawks.

Roger Williams got a second chance in the 27th minute and made the most of the opportunity. Samantha Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) sent a short pass to Carignan in the middle of the box. Carignan held off the defender and got off a shot into the left corner to make it a 2-0 Hawk lead.

Provost picked up the third goal of the half for RWU, bending in a corner kick inside the goal in the final minute of the first half.

It did not take long in the second half for Kaiser to come through with her second score of the game. Missy Andrade (Glastonbury, Conn.) sent a pass up the middle to Kaiser, who caught up to the ball and knocked a shot into the right corner to make it a four-goal lead for RWU.

Valenti got in on the scoring action in the 65th minute. Kaiser came down the field, making her way down the right before sending a touch pass to the left to Valenti, who put away the shot into the back of the net.

Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) picked up the win for RWU, needing only one save in the first half for the Hawks. Natalie O'Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) had eight saves in the second for RWU. McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) made eight saves for the Fighting Scots in the loss.

Roger Williams (15-0-3, 7-0-1 CCC) ends the regular season Wednesday at the University of New England, while Gordon (5-7-3, 3-4-1 CCC) heads to Endicott on Tuesday.
