Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bantams Strut Past Scots 70-37

HARTFORD, Conn.—Gordon Women's Basketball ran into another tough opponent on Saturday, losing to Trinity 70-37 at the Ray Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams opened up a 14-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back on their way to the big victory.

Gordon drops its sixth straight game and sits at 3-6 on the season. Trinity has been one of the best teams in New England to start the year, improving to 8-1 heading into the holiday break.

Trinity blew things open late in the first quarter after Gordon cut the game to 11-7 on a made three by Jess Ryan (Milford, N.H.). The Bantams ended the quarter with a 10-0 ran that spanned just three minutes.

Gordon and Trinity matched baskets in the early stages of the second quarter, but again the Bantams put a run together at the end of the period to take a 20-point advantage into the halftime festivities.

Mackenzie Griffin had a solid game for the Bantams with 17 points and nine boards, but it was Trinity's deep bench that made all the difference. Trinity notched 32 points from their reserves, while Gordon could only muster 10 for the game.

Gordon is off for break until January 2nd when they head up to Waterville, Maine to take on Thomas College.

For the Scots:
  • A Gordon player did not score in double-figures for the first time this season. Kristen Smith (Littleton, Mass.) led all the Scots with nine points, while Ryan finished with eight. No other Scots had more than four points.
  • Smith also led the team in rebounds with eight, the third time she has done that this year.
