BEVERLY, Mass.—Playing for the second time in as many days, Gordon Women's Tennis ran its win streak to two with a 7-2 triumph over Division II Saint Anselm on Friday evening. The Hawks took the top flights in singles and doubles, but Gordon used its depth to secure a .500 season for the second consecutive year.
The Fighting Scots moved to 10-9 on the season with the victory, while Saint Anselm closes out the season with a 4-9 mark.
Nathalia Moran (Lake Villa, Ill.) and Alexa DiDomizio (Mahwah, N.J.) got the scoring started for the Scots with an 8-3 result at third doubles. After a back-and-forth start, Gordon's third duo rallied off the final four games of the match to put a point on the board. The Hawks evened the score just a few minutes later with an identical result at first doubles. Freshmen duo Jess Perkins (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Meghan Golden (Scituate, Mass.) handled Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Sophie Linnell (Richmond, Va.).
Gordon received a confidence-boosting win at second doubles to pull ahead in the match 2-1. Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) and Madeline Berry (Paso Robles, Calif.) fended off a pesky opponent and won the final two games of the set to claim a 9-7 victory.
Perkins gave the Hawks their final win of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Yeaw at the top spot. Gordon rallied off the other five singles matches, including the bottom four slot in straight sets. Caron, Moran, DiDomizio and Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) all managed comfortable wins.
Linnell dropped her first set at second singles to Golden, 6-3. The Gordon freshman battled back to take the second set 6-3 and force a third-set super tiebreak. Linnell raced out to a big lead in the tiebreaker and fought off a rally from Golden to complete the comeback.
The Fighting Scots close out their season on Wednesday at home against Clark on the Brigham courts.
