Scots Stay Hot in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I.—Gordon Women's Tennis improved to 3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a road victory at Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots took all nine matches against the Seahawks and dropped only one set on the day.

A reshuffled doubles lineup clicked for the Scots, as the top two duos only dropped a game between them. The new third combo of Gabrielle Brucker (Eleva, Wis.) and Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) also handled the opponents, 8-4.

Abbie Denney (Peoria, Ariz.) quickly dispatched Kasey Walther at first singles, 6-0, 6-1. Drescher clinched the match for the Fighting Scots by winning a first set in a tiebreaker and blanking her opponent in the second. Katherine Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) continued her strong day at fourth singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) also picked up straight-set wins.

Salve's best chance at a win came when Abigail Packard surprised Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) in the second set to force a super tiebreaker. Caron outlasted her foe 11-9 to complete the sweep for the Scots.
