HENNIKER, N.H.— New England College and Gordon battled to a 1-1 tie in non-conference women's soccer on Wednesday afternoon. With the tie the Pilgrims move to 2-4-1 on the season, while the Scots are now 1-2-2 overall
Neither team would muster a goal in the opening half of play as the Pilgrims had two quality scoring opportunities, including a free kick by Caroline Mols that would hit the crossbar in the 8
th minute and an open shot by Michaela Pomeroy in the 31
st minute that would sail just wide.
NEC would break the scoring drought 13 minutes into the second half as Jaycie Triandafilou would take a foul in the box and convert on the ensuing penalty kick. Gordon would answer with its own penalty kick in the 77
th minute as
Kara Dry (Madison, Conn.) who notch her first goal of the season knotting the game at 1-1.
The two teams would battle through the remainder of regulation and both overtimes scoreless as the Pilgrims finished the game with the 24-17 advantage in shots and the 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal for NEC was Mackenzie Meegan who recorded eight saves in 110 minutes of work. Playing the entire time in net for Gordon was
Katie Mader (Scarborough, Maine) who turned away 11 shots on goal.
NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they open up North Atlantic Conference play on the road battling Husson University. Gordon will hit the field again on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they host conference foe Salve Regina University.
