Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Offense Shines for Women's Soccer in 5-0 Victory

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Soccer notched its second win of the season, beating the University of Maine-Farmington 5-0 in front of the home crowd on Wednesday. Senior Jamie Breton (Concord, N.H.) stretched her team lead in goals by adding two more to her ledger in the victory.

Quick to forget about Saturday's disappointing result versus Salve Regina, Gordon came out on Wednesday with a vengeance. The ball was played in Gordon's offensive end for much of the first half and the Fighting Scots were able to put a goal in the board early on to take command of the game.

Less than five minutes into the opening half, Jill Kefalas (Wenham, Mass.) snuck behind her defender and ran onto a through ball from Chandler Stier (Redlands, Calif.). The freshman striker took one look at the goalkeeper and lofted a ball over her outstretched hands for the score.

Fellow newcomer Kiersten Klose (Concord, N.H.) made it 2-0 with her first collegiate goal in the 19th minute. Breton saved a ball from going out the end line and put a cross back from the left side, finding the head of Klose in the middle of the box.

The Fighting Scots added two more goals over the final 10 minutes of the first half with simple finishes by Breton and senior Lauren Hayes (Wantage, N.J.). Shelby Palafox (Lexington, Mass.) and Taemar Shearer (Hampden, Maine) registered the assists on good centered balls.

Gordon outshot the Beavers 16-4 in the first half, although all four of Maine-Farmington's attempts were on net. Senior Katie Mader (Scarborough, Maine) stopped each of the shots she faced in the first half.

Breton was in on the action once again to start the second half. The senior midfielder secured a ball just outside the 18-yard box and quickly put one over top of the Beavers' keeper for a 5-0 advantage.

Sam Hatch (Hebron, Maine) stopped 10 shots for the Beavers in the loss, while Mader pitched the shutout with five saves.

The Plaid improves to 2-3-2 on the season and travels to Wentworth on Saturday for a Commonwealth Coast Conference game. The Beavers fall to 2-4 on the year and host Maine Maritime in a conference game at on Saturday.
