SALEM, Mass. —Gordon Women's Tennis rolled to its eighth straight win with a convincing 9-0 victory over Salem State at the Central Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. The Fighting Scots improve to 8-1 on the season while the Vikings slip to 0-5.
Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) led the way with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at first singles, defeating April McDermott (Tewksbury, Mass.) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Abbie Denney (Peoria, Ariz.) and
Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) combined for an 8-0 win at first doubles for the Fighting Scots, as they beat McDermott and Cassie Morrison (Clinton, Mass.).
Katherine Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) and,
Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H) won at second and third singles respectively for Gordon. Jeffreys beat Morrison 6-0, 6-1 while Caron won 6-0, 6-2 over Hillary Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.).
Gabby Brucker (Eleva, Wis.),
Emily Leahy (Lake Zurich, Ill.) and
Jordan Haley (Portsmouth, Va.) all secured wins at fourth through sixth singles.
Salem State travels to Plymouth State for a Little East Match on Wednesday, September 30th. A few Gordon athletes leave for Middlebury on Thursday night to take on the best of New England at the regional ITA tournament, beginning tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
