Gordon Men Storm Past UNE; Nor'easters Take Women's Meet

BIDDEFORD, Maine—Gordon Men's Swimming got its first head-to-head win of the season with a dominant performance over host UNE on Tuesday evening. The Fighting Scots controlled the meet from the very beginning on their way to a 183-23 triumph. The Nor'easter women became just the second team to beat Gordon this season, edging the Scots 146-112.
 
Gordon has the weekend off from competition before gearing up for another trip up to Colby-Sawyer on January 23rd. The women now sit at 5-2 this season, while the men improve to 1-4 on the year.
 
Men's Highlights
  • The Scots took all the points from both relay events.
  • Dean Drukker (Bedford, N.H.) handled the competition in the 1,000 Free with an easy 36-second victory. Drukker also won the 100 Free and was a member of both victorious relay teams.
  • Dan Fauber (Granbury, Texas) had solid wins in all of his individual appearances, beating a teammate for first place in the 50 Back and 100 IM.
  • Josh Florez (West Hartford, Conn.) took his usual place atop the standing with wins in the 50 and 100 Breast events.
  • Senior Andrew Lewis (Mystic, Conn.) won a season-high three individual events. Langdon Kessner (Rochester, N.Y.) won two.
 
Women's Highlights
  • UNE edged Gordon's 200 Medley team by less than a hundredth of a second.
  • Senior Nicole St Martin (Westport, Mass.) had another comfortable win in the 1,000 Free with a time of 11:40.70.
  • Gordon Athlete of the Week, Caris Lyons, had two individual wins. The freshman stayed red hot in the 200 Free with a four-second win over UNE's Kayla Burgess. She also snuck out a win in the 50 Free sprint.
  • Alexa Bragg (Trumbull, Conn.) finished just a second off her school record in the 50 Back to get a gold positioning.
  • UNE took a couple events in a row in the middle of the meet to take a hold on the score, but Emily David (North Kingston, R.I.) got Gordon's final win in the 100 IM with a time of 1:06.20.
 
Other Notes
  • Joshua Austin (Richmond) and Hannah Denney (Lemoore, Calif.) both qualified for the New England Championship meet on Tuesday night.
