BOSTON, Mass.—Gordon Women's Basketball let a Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Wentworth slip away in the fourth quarter as the Leopards took down the Fighting Scots 51-39 at the Tansey Gymnasium.
The Fighting Scots fall to 4-12 on the season and 0-9 in the conference, while Wentworth improves to 5-10 and 2-7 respectively.
Gordon struggled out of the gate with only five points in the first quarter, but some poor shooting by the host Leopards kept things close at 10-5. The quiet offensive showing continued well into the second quarter when Gordon found a combination that sparked their scoring. Trailing 14-7 with less than five minutes until the half, Gordon ended the period on a 12-8 run to pull back within three points.
The Fighting Scots grabbed its largest lead of the game halfway through the third quarter when
Kristen Smith (Littleton, Mass.) broke a 23-23 tie with a made layup. However, Wentworth's Rachael Camara (Fall River, Mass.) hit a triple on the ensuing possession that awoke the Leopards slumping offense.
Wentworth built up a six point lead by the end of the quarter, outscoring Gordon by eight over the final four minutes of the third. By the midway point of the final period Wentworth had built up a 10-point lead, while Gordon could only muster one bucket in that timeframe.
The Scots will look to rebound on Saturday when they host Roger Williams at 1 p.m.
For the Foes:- Carly Rogers (Scarborough, Maine) led all players with 14 points and secured the double-double with 10 boards. The senior forward also contributed two blocks, two steals and two assists.
- Camara also had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds despite making just 2 of 15 shots from the floor.
