WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Tennis closed out its fall regular season with a 7-2 loss to Assumption College on Monday evening. The Fighting Scots took a win in both singles and doubles action, but their Division II opponents notched four straight-set victories in singles play to top the hosts.

The Fighting Scots finish their fall schedule at 7-5 entering the Commonwealth Coast Conference beginning this week. Gordon hosts fifth-seeded Western New England on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Assumption improves its mark to 11-2 on the year and gets back on track after just suffering its second loss of the year on Saturday to Stonehill. The Greyhounds travel to Saint Michael's on Wednesday before beginning the NE-10 Championships on October 19^th.

Gordon dropped a pair of close matches in doubles action at the first and third flights. The Greyhounds became just the second team to beat Gordon's top duo in a dual match, as Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H.) and Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn.) outlasted Abbie Denney (Peoria, Ariz.) and Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) 8-6.

After the Greyhounds took another 8-6 result at the third flight, Gordon got its first point of the day with a tiebreak win at two. Kaelyn Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Maddie Berry (Paso Robles, Calif.) did just enough to take down Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass.) and Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass.) 9-8 (7-4).

Assumption guaranteed victory with four straight wins to begin singles play, all in the bottom of the lineup. Denney got a point back for the Scots, besting Burbine 6-0, 7-5 at the No. 1 spot, but Riley got by Hanson at the second flight in three sets.
