QUINCY, Mass.—Gordon Women's Soccer ran its win streak to two games with a 3-0 shutout of rival Eastern Nazarene on Saturday. A pair of Fighting Scots scored their first goals of the season to help the Scots get back to .500 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Gordon improves to 6-4-1 overall on the season, the highest they have been above the .500 mark after a pair of blowout victories. The Scots also bump up their conference standing at 2-2-1. Eastern Nazarene dips to 0-5 in the CCC and 3-9 in total.
The Fighting Scots offense finally hit its stride this week. After netting a season-high four at home against Salem State on Tuesday, Gordon exploded for three more points on Saturday evening against the Lions.
It took 39 minutes, but Gordon got on the scoreboard when talented rookie striker Lexi Potter (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) continued her scoring streak. Potter received a pass at the top of the box from midfielder Asha Steele (Bedford, N.H.) and slid a perfect left-footer inside the right post for her fourth of the season.
Gordon outshot the Lions 5-1 in the first half, forcing keeper Anastasia Swift into three saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Eastern Nazarene played more steady in the second half, leading in overall shots with an 8-6 advantage. However, Gordon keeper Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.) remained undaunted with six stops in the second period.
On the other end of the field, Gordon begun to pull away in the 77th minute when Steele found the back of the net by her lonesome. Playing in just her third game of the season, Steele has made a big difference in the center for the Fighting Scots and made her presence known with a one-on-one strike to make it 2-0.
The Scots iced the game just three minutes later when Devin Lacroix (Candia, N.H.) wound her way through the midfield before placing a perfect attempt on frame.
Gordon has two non-conference games during the week, hosting Maine Maritime on Columbus Day and Castleton University on Wednesday.
