MILTON, Mass.—Gordon Women's Basketball dropped its regular season finale on the road to Curry, losing 59-43. Offense was hard to come by in the first half, but Gordon trailed by only five in the third quarter before the Colonels made a final push to put the Fighting Scots away. The Scots missed out on the tiebreaker to Nichols, who Gordon beat earlier in the week.
The Fighting Scots finish the season at 6-19 and 2-16 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Curry improves to 12-13 overall and an even 9-9 in the CCC.
Curry scored the only two points of the opening five minutes as both offenses felt out the flow of the game.
Jamie Tafoya (Fort Collins, Colo.) and
Jess Ryan (Milford, N.H.) tallied five quick points to put Gordon up by three.
However, the Colonels scored seven of the final nine points of the quarter and continued the run well into the second period. Shannon Griffith capped off a 16-2 run that gave Curry an 18-7 lead approaching the half.
Gordon was able to eventually close the gap to six points when
Sydney Pefanis (Cumming, Ga.) hit a three to make it a 20-14 game, but Gordon finished the half on another three-minute scoring drought and entering the half down 22-14.
Curry stretch the lead to 10 points in the early stages of the third quarter, but five consecutive points by
Brooke Dyson (Houston, Texas) once again brought Gordon back within striking distance.
The Colonels settled themselves back down over the final 15 minutes of gametime and beat the Scots with an efficient inside scoring game.
The Scots finished well above their season average with six made threes, but only nine made baskets from inside the arch did them in at the end. The Scots shot under 25-percent from the floor compared to 41.5 for the Colonels as Curry's two leading scorers came off the bench to shoot for high averages.
For the Foes- Nicole Rice led the Colonels with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. She tall sophomore also notched three blocks.
- Emily Irwin finished with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting off the bench.
- Christina Deiorio also finished in double-figures with 10.
- Alyssa Keeney, Kerry White and Griffith also had at least eight points. White and Griffith both also put up double-doubles, combining for 18 caroms.
For the Scots- Gordon had a quiet game from its starting crew, as the five only combined for 14 points.
- Ryan came off the bench to score a game-high 15 points.
- The Scots turned the ball over seven less times than Curry and outscored them in bench points.
