Scots Excel at 2016 Outdoor Debut

FITCHBURG, Mass.—The Gordon Track & Field programs truly kicked off their spring season on Saturday with a pair of good finishes at the Jim Sheehan Invitational at Fitchburg State University. The Scot women highlighted the day, coming in sixth place out of 17 teams competing. Gordon's men's squad totaled 11th of 19 teams.
 
Both teams are schedule to compete next Saturday at the Smith Invitational in Northampton, beginning at 11 a.m.
 
Meet Highlights
  • Corrine Previte (Danvers, Mass.) began her season with two top-10 finishes in the 100 and 200 Meter Dash events. Previte started the day with a 13.75 mark in the 100 for seventh place before showing a 28.64 time in the 200, which placed her eighth.
  • Senior Kiersten Bieren (Groton, Mass.) finished 10th with a time of 1:09.63.
  • Louisa Dodds (Hillsdale, N.Y.) also grabbed a top 10 in the half-mile.
  • Gordon took a clean sweep of both steeplechase events. Julia Drewicke (San Francisco, Calif.) took the women's event, while Wes Nelson (Charlton, Mass.) finished in the gold on the men's side.
  • Maddie St. Julien (Wareham, Mass.) was the third best rookie in the long jump and sixth overall with a best of 13-11.50.
  • Nelson completed his busy day with an eighth-place finish in the 5,000 meter race, just 40 seconds behind the winner from Northeastern.
  • Alex King (St. Croix Falls, Wisc.) made the podium in the pole vault in third.
  • Junior Edison Thayer (Boxford, Mass.) also had a good showing in the javelin at 51.81 meters.
