WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Softball ran into one of its stiffest tests of the season as Lesley topped the Fighting Scots 8-2 and 14-2 in a doubleheader sweep at the Gordon Softball Field on Wednesday.
The two losses snapped a four-game win streak by the Fighting Scots, while the Lynx stay red hot in New England. Gordon falls to 10-21-1 on the year and the Lynx improve to 17-11 and 16-4 since returning from their spring break adventure.
Game One: Gordon 2 – 8 Lesley
The Lynx opened things up with a pair of round trippers to score three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Gordon chipped away for a run in each of the second and third inning, but that would be all of the offense for the Scots in the contest. Kaelie Mercado (Granada Hills, Calif.) and Sarah Ryder (Telford, Pa.) got credit for Gordon's RBI.
The Lynx increased their lead to three runs in the bottom of the third with the top of the lineup doing more damage. Lead-off batter Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.) rapped her second single of the game to right and stole second to set up another Lynx single. Quezada and Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) executed a double steal to score a run before another one-base hit scored Barker two batters later.
Lesley put a cap on the game in the bottom of the sixth as the Fighting Scots came unraveled in the field with four errors. The Lynx tacked on three more runs and held Gordon to only one hit in the seventh to close out the 8-2 win.
Game Two: Lesley 14 – 2 Gordon
Lesley was relentless on offense in the second game of the double header, knocking in 14 runs on 14 hits and leaving only three runners stranded. On the other side, Lesley held the Scots to only two runs coming off the bat of a Marissa Meenan (Wayne, Pa.) home run in the fourth.
Quezada hurt the Scots at the top of the order once again with three hits and four RBI. Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Barker also had two hits each and combined for seven more runs batted in. Lesley's top three drove in 11 of its 14 runs in the run-shortened game.
Katie Dariano (Albany, N.Y.) had two hits for the Fighting Scots.
Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) and Kaera Wyse (Reading, Mass.) combined for 13 strikeouts and two victories in the circle for the Lynx.
