WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Tennis rebounded nicely from a tough loss on Tuesday, handing neighbor Salem State a 9-0 result on Thursday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex. The Fighting Scots received straight-set wins across the board in the singles on their way to a second non-conference victory of 2016.

Gordon's Abbie Denney (Peoria, Ariz.) and Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) took their normal spot atop the doubles lineup and managed an 8-1 win to put the first point on the board. Maddie Berry (Paso Robles, Calif.) and Gabby Brucker (Eleva, Wisc.) followed suit with an 8-2 win at the second flight, while Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) and Emily Ontiveros (Sylmar, Calif.) doubled up their opponents 8-4.

Bean stayed unbeaten on the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ann Spence (Attleboro, Mass.) at the third singles flight to bring Gordon to the brink of victory. Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) came through for Gordon with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the two spot to clinch the match overall.

Kaelyn Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) played first singles for the first time in 2016 and showed well with a 6-1, 6-3 result over Madeline Allaire (Columbus, Ohio). Emily Leahy (Lake Zurich, Ill.) blanked her opponent at the fifth flight and is now 2-0 on the season all while not dropping a game in two starts.

Brucker and Ontiveros closed out the sweep with solid wins at fourth and sixth respectively.

The Vikings (0-5) will look to get into the win column next Tuesday when they host Worcester State at 3:30 p.m. Gordon (4-3) has a busy weekend with the ITA New England Regional tournament on Friday and a Commonwealth Coast Conference match at Western New England on Saturday at noon.
