WENHAM, Mass.—Commonwealth Coast Conference favorite Nichols kept its impressive season going with an 8-1 win over Gordon on Wednesday. The Bison rolled their mark to 6-0 in the CCC, while battling the elements and dropping Gordon to a 4-3 mark in conference play this fall.
The Bison raced out to a two-match lead with wins at second and third doubles. Gordon put up plenty of fight at the second flight where Kaelyn Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Maddie Berry (Paso Robles, Calif.) battled to an 8-6 loss to Alanna Judd (Westborough, Mass.) and Isabelle Leonardi (North Hampton, N.H.).
Gordon got its lone point of the day at first doubles as Abbie Denney (Peoria, Ariz.) and Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) continued their strong 2016 campaign with an 8-5 result.
The Bison won all six singles matches in straight sets with Gordon senior Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) putting up the biggest obstacle at the fourth flight. Nichols junior Daniela Saldarriaga (Medellin, Colombia) eventually outlasted Caron 6-4, 6-3.
Gordon will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday in its CCC finale against Salve Regina beginning at noon. The Bison (8-3) play Saint Joseph (Conn.) and American International University tomorrow.
