WENHAM, Mass.—The Gordon Men's Swim program made it two wins in a row entering the final stretch of their schedule, besting Colby-Sawyer 115-107 at the Bennett Aquatic Center on Saturday. The Fighting Scots built up a lead in the early stages of the match and fought off a late charge from the visitors for the close victory.
The Scots round out their regular season schedule next Saturday at Saint Joseph's of Maine in Standish with a 1 p.m. start. The NEISDA Championships begin on February 16, 2017 at the University of Rhode Island.
Colby-Sawyer won both relays on the afternoon to open and close out the meet, but Gordon's success in the middle spurred them on to the narrow victory.
Dean Drukker (Bedford, N.H.) and Kenny Lowell (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished first and second in the men's mile to begin the day. Freshman Aaron Lewis (Mystic, Conn.) followed it up with a 2:03.43 showing in the 200 Free, which was almost 30 seconds ahead of second place.
While Colby-Sawyer took the top spot in three of the next four events, Gordon continued to pile up points with strong showings to fill out the rest of the podium. The Fighting Scots received their third individual win of the day from Drukker, who sprinted his way to a 53.43 mark in the 100 Free, just ahead of teammate Jeff Davis (Willow Grove, Pa.).
Lewis made it a two-for as well just a few events later with another sizeable lead in the 500 Free, touching the wall in a time of 5:31.54.
The Chargers ended up with more first-place finishes for the day, winning the final three events, but Gordon's depth allowed them to hold on for their second consecutive head-to-head result.
