Tennis Shuts Out Falcons After Delay

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.—The Fighting Scots blanked Messiah in a neutral non-conference women's tennis match on Tuesday at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center. Gordon won the top three flights in both singles and doubles action to record a 6-0 victory over the "rival" Falcons.

The Fighting Scots pick up their first win in Hilton Head and improve to 9-7 on the season. Messiah drops to 1-4.

All three doubles flights were decided by an 8-4 score to give Gordon the important 3-0 lead.

Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) and Kaelyn Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) both edged their opponent in a third-set super tiebreaker. Hanson won the first set against Kelly Hopkins 6-4 before dropping the second by the same score. The tiebreak went back and forth until Hanson pulled out a 13-11 result. At the second flight, Hall fell down a set before winning all six games in the second. With momentum on her side, the sophomore cruised to a 10-4 win in the tiebreaker.

Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) took home match point for the Fighting Scots with a 6-4, 6-4 result at third singles.

Gordon will play Webster tomorrow at 2:30 at the same time the men play Millsaps at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
