RINDGE, N.H.—Playing for the first time in nearly a month, Gordon Women's Tennis did not miss a beat in a 7-2 victory over Franklin Pierce on Monday afternoon. The Fighting Scots improved to 2-1 against Division II programs during the 2016-17 season with the win.
The Fighting Scots also clinched better than a .500 record by notching their 11
th victory of the season. The Ravens dropped to 4-15.
Gordon held a 2-1 advantage after doubles with wins at the top and bottom spots.
Kaelyn Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and
Maddie Berry rekindled their connection on the court with a solid 8-5 win at the first doubles spot in their first action together since the fall.
Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) and
Emily Ontiveros (Sylmar, Calif.) began the match with an 8-3 win at the third flight.
The Ravens took a match back as Sarah Rich and Kelly O'Donnell snatched an 8-5 win at the second spot over
Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) and Gabby Brucker (Eleva, Wisc.).
The Fighting Scots showed their depth in singles play with wins at two through six in the lineup. The bottom four flights were all won convincingly in straight sets.
Hall dropped her first set to Rich 6-1, but dominated the final two sets by dropping only one game combined to pull off the three-setter.
Alana Wyatt won the lone singles point for the Ravens by outlasting Hanson in three sets.
Gordon concludes the season on Thursday when they host Mount Holyoke at 5:30 p.m.
