Scots Finish Out Campaign with Loss to Lyons

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Tennis rounded out its 2016-17 campaign with a tough 8-1 loss at the hands of NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke. The Fighting Scots took the middle doubles spot, but the Lyons controlled the singles lineup to pull away for the final result.

The Lyons pulled out to the early 2-0 lead with positive results at first and third doubles. Ayama Yazawa (Tokyo, Japan) and Ching-Ching Huang (Lukang Township, Taiwan) combined to dispatch Gordon's top duo, 8-3. Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) and Catherine Peabody (San Francisco, Calif.) posted an identical result at the bottom flight.

Gordon got a point back at second doubles where Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) and Gabby Brucker (Eleva, Wisc.) recorded a gritty 8-5 win.

That would be Gordon's only point of the day though, as the Lyons won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Hanson and Yazawa had a grind it out match at first singles, but the Lyon outlasted the Gordon sophomore by two points in the super tiebreaker.

The Fighting Scots close out their season at 11-9. Mount Holyoke improves its mark to 13-8.
