Game Recap: Softball |

Scots Tie Wins Record in Regular Season Finale

DUDLEY, Mass.—A barrage of runs in game two helped Gordon Softball to tie the single-season wins record at 14. Host Nichols powered its way to a 13-3 win in the first contest before Gordon responded with a 10-7 triumph in the series finale.

The Fighting Scots moved up to 14-20 this season and 7-11 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Gordon matches its single-season high of 14 wins, a mark they have hit six times previous—most recently in 2010. Seven conference wins is the most the program has had since 2011, although Gordon had six more opportunities in that time in a larger CCC.

Nichols goes to 14-15 overall and 6-10 in the conference. The Bison are in the catbird seat to host a play-in game on Friday, but will have to win both games against Wentworth tomorrow.

Game One
The Bison never left much of a doubt in the opener, scoring seven runs in the first two innings to put Gordon in a big hole.

The middle of the Bison lineup was a row of damage as Kendall Meehan (Danvers, Mass.), Christina Drake (Lebanon, N.H.) and Jessica Kuelling (Gales Ferry, Conn.) combined for eight hits and six runs driven in for the game.

Sarah Ryder (Telford, Pa.) provided Gordon's only offense of the game in the third with a three-run homer to make it a 7-3 game, but Nichols homered twice in the same inning to send them on their way to a win in five innings.

Ace Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.) improved to 12-5 this season, striking out four in the full five innings of work.

Emily Burkhart (Manheim, Pa.) had two of Gordon's five hits.

Game Two
The two teams reversed roles in the final game of the day as Gordon raced out to a 9-3 lead and held off the Bison just enough to take the three-run win.

Megan Jenkerson (McDonough, Ga.) homered for the 10th time this season in the first at-bat of the game as a part of a two-run first. Ryder also contributed an RBI single after Rose Shannon (Ashland, Mass.) tripled.

Leading 4-3 in the fifth, Caitlin Catalanotto (Kingston, N.H.) helped her cause with a three-run homer before Ryder sent a pitch out of the yard for the second time on the day to give Gordon a 9-3 cushion.

Nichols put up a big inning with four runs in the fifth to close the gap to two suddenly, but Kline became the fourth Scot to homer in the game in the seventh for a 10-7 lead.
The Bison loaded the bases with no outs in the final half inning, but Gordon's Catalanotto worked out of the jam with two K's and a fielder's choice.

Gordon had a season-high 16 hits in the game, as well as 39 at bats and four home runs. The 10 RBI was the team's third best mark this year.

Catalanotto won for the 11th time this year in the circle, which tied the single-season mark for the pitcher in program history.
