After their game was called due to inclement weather last night, Gordon Women's Soccer and Curry College took to the pitch tonight to restart their final match before the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament, dueling to a 2-2 draw after 110 minutes of action.
The Scots kept Curry's keeper Maggie Chamberlain (Fr./Taunton, Mass.) busy, putting up 44 shots total and 23 on goal, while
Giselle Maso had five saves on the night for Gordon.
After maintaining the majority of possession and firing off 13 shots, the Scots looked poised to take the lead in the first half, but several key saves from Chamberlain and a couple dings off the bar kept the game locked at nil-nil at the break.
That all changed just a minute and a half into the second as the Colonels' Tayla Randall (So./Walpole, Mass.) took advantage of a breakaway and tucked the ball past Maso for the 1-0 lead. The Scots continued to dominate possession and shot output with
Ashton Barkey and
Casey Miller pinging back-to-back shots off the crossbar and post but didn't get on the board until the 67th minute when
Asha Steele floated a beauty of a corner to the foot of
Monet Marshall, who volleyed a rocket past Chamberlain for the equalizer. Steele then got in on the action herself, collecting a ball from
Devin Lacroix just outside the center of the 18 and ripping a low driven shot into the left netting to give the Scots the go-ahead with just 10 minutes to play. That lead was short-lived, however, as an opportunistic Randall hit a shot two minutes later that deflected off a Gordon defender and spun overtop of Maso to make it 2-2.
Despite holding a 10-2 shot advantage in the remaining minutes of regulation and overtime, the Scots could not quite break through for the winner and wrapped up the evening with their first tie of the season.
With tonight's result, the Scots finished their regular season at 10-6-1 overall, 5-2-1 in the CCC to secure No. 2 for the postseason tourney. They will face No. 7 Wentworth at home on Saturday, October 27. Curry finished its 2018 campaign tonight at 8-9-2 (1-5-1 CCC).
