Last Second Goal Lifts UNE Over Scots

The Fighting Scots welcomed the Nor'easters the University of New England to the Brigham Athletic Complex this afternoon to face off in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) semifinals, where the Nor'easters stunned their hosts with three seconds left in regulation to advance to Saturday's championship match.

Both teams had equal possession throughout the full 90 minutes of play, with Gordon holding a 12-10 shot advantage. In the 39th minute, Katie Beaudoin (Jr./Coventry, R.I.) ripped a shot on frame, but Gordon keeper Giselle Maso made an impressive diving save to keep the score at zero going into the break.

Opening the second, the Scots looked to get on the board quickly with an aggressive attack and several quality opportunities but couldn't quite break the silence. Then, with just four minutes remaining, Asha Steele teed up a beauty of a corner to the head of Monet Marshall, but UNE's Jenna Pannone (So./Prospect, Conn.) collected the attempt to keep the game knotted at nil.

And just when the game appeared to be headed to extra time, UNE capitalized on a throw in at midfield to feed Beaudoin, who ripped a shot past Maso for the game-winner with just three ticks on the clock.

UNE awaits the winner of the Endicott versus Western New England contest tonight at 7 p.m. to see who they will match up against in the finals. Gordon concludes its year with an 11-7-1 record.
