The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Brunswick, Maine for the NCAA Division III New England Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Nov. 10).
The meet, which was hosted by Bowdoin College, featured a six-kilometer women's race and an eight-kilometer men's race.
On the women's side, the Fighting Scots finished 31st out of 57 teams, coming in behind CCC rivals Endicott (29th) and Roger Williams (30th). With a time of 24:05.69, Angie Epplett was the first to cross for Gordon with a 112th-place finish. Gordon's other top runners were Julia Drewicke in the 153rd spot (24:35.72) and Bridget Hill in the 176th spot (24:55.53).
Gordon's men booked a 42nd team finish out of the 58 participating teams. Similar to the women, the Scots finished just behind another CCC team as Western New England came in 41st place. The top three finishers were freshman standout William Hunt with a 28:48.18 time earning himself a 204th place finish, Chandler Hansen in 228th place at 29:16.2, and Michael McKee in 268th with a 30:06.70 result.
The University of New England, which won both the men's and women's CCC Championships, was the top CCC finisher in both races with the women placing 18th out of 57 teams and the men placing 25th out of 58 teams.
There were two CCC runners in the top-100 of each race. In the women's race, UNE's Emily Wasina (So./Waterboro, Maine), who won the CCC Championship race two weeks ago, was the first runner from the conference to cross the finish line. She placed 65th with a time of 23:23.09. The only other CCC runner in the top-100 was Sarah Mawdsley (Jr./Sandy Hook, Conn.) from Roger Williams who finished 70th at 23:26.97.
On the men's side, CCC Runner and Rookie of the Year Jacob Hickey (So./Winthrop, Maine) was the first conference finisher. He landed in the 47th spot with a time of 26:11.08. Nichols' Joseph Santese (Jr./Danielson, Conn.) also finished in the top-100 landing in the 89th spot at 26:50.76.
The NCAA Division III Championships will take place next week on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Winneconne, Wis. at Lake Breeze Golf Club hosted by University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The entire championship field will be announced via press release from the NCAA tomorrow, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
