Scots Split Doubleheader With Hawks To Open CCC Play

BRISTOL, R.I. — Gordon opened Commonwealth Coast Conference play on the road against Roger Williams at Paolino Field and lost the first game 7-4 while they won the second game 12-6.

In the first game, the Hawks (2-12, 1-1 CCC) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 4-0 lead off of two RBI singles and a two-RBI double. They added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to stretch the lead to seven runs off two RBI singles and with a runner stealing home. The Fighting Scots (4-10, 1-1 CCC) cut the lead to four runs in the top of the sixth as they scored three runs as Sarah Ryder drove in Caitlin Catalanotto with a single to centerfield and Arianna Ramsaran and Rose Shannon scored off of two different fielder's choice plays. They forced Roger Williams to leave two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 7-3 game going in the last inning. Gordon started the top of the seventh with two straight ground outs. The Hawks then walked Catalannotto and Ramsaran to put a runner in scoring position and Meredith Kercher came in to pinch run for Catalanotto. Shannon hit a single up the middle to move two runners into scoring position. Ryder hit a single down the left side to score Kercher to make it a 7-4 game. Brown flied out to right field in the next at-bat to seal the win for Roger Williams.

Ramsaran batted 2-for-3 with one run, one walk, and a double. Hatchell went 1-for-2 with one RBI and a walk. Megan Jenkerson batted 1-for-4 with a triple.

Jasmine Mullally pitched six innings and struck out two batters.

In the second game, Gordon got on the board first in the top of the first with a single by Ramsaran that drove in Jenkerson. In the top of the second, Kali Denty hit a two-RBI double to left center to stretch the lead to three runs. The Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the second with three runs with two coming from a two-RBI triple and the other from a fielder's choice. Shannon drove in Ramsaran with a double in the top of the third to make it 4-3. Roger Williams scored three more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-3 lead. The Fighting Scots broke the game open in the top of the fourth as they scored five runs to make it an 8-3 game. They added three more runs in the last three innings and only allowed one hit to seal the win.

Ramsaran went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, two runs, and one stolen base. Jenkerson batted 3-for-4 with a career-high five runs. Denty went 2-for-4 with career-bests in RBIs with two and in runs with two.

Catalanotto pitched seven innings and had three strikeouts.

Gordon next hosts Fitchburg State in non-conference action March 29 in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
