The Gordon College Women's Tennis team continued its fall season by competing at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament this past weekend. The event was co-hosted by Mount Holyoke and Smith in Massachusetts. The four brackets: A, B, C, and D. The format included duos from the respective schools who played two singles and one doubles match against each other, with the winners of the best two-of-three format advancing to the next round. The singles were played with two regular sets and a tiebreaker set in the third if necessary, while doubles was one pro-set.
The Fighting Scots team of Anna Mullane and Meli Markarian won the 'D' bracket, topping Smith's Ashley Felix (Fr./El Paso, Tex.) and Kara Van Allen (Sr./Kalamazoo, Mich.) in the first round and advancing to defeat Springfield's Juliette Piazza (So./Portland, Conn.) and Heidi Schuman (So./Averill Park, N.Y.).
In the final against Clare O'Keefe (Jr./Lutz, Fla.) and Elsa Hillis (So.Georgetown, Texas) from Endicott and Smith, Gordon bested the duo to earn the championship in the bracket.
Next up for the Fighting Scots is a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday, October 16 against Western New England at the Brigham Athletic Complex at 2 p.m.
