Scots Pummel Hawks In Pivotal CCC Matchup

In a pivotal Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup this afternoon on Roger Williams University's home turf in Bristol, Rhode Island, Gordon College Women's Soccer blanked their hosts, 3-0 to improve to 11-3-3 overall and 5-1 in CCC play. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 11-7-1 and 4-2-1 in league action.

How It Happened
  • Not wasting any time to put the Fighting Scots on the scoreboard, Monet Marshall booted a pass to Calla Ashley who dribbled up the left side before ripping a shot from 25 yards out just out of the reach of RWU keeper Morgan McCutcheon (So./Danbury, Conn.) and into the netting to go up 1-0 in the 10th minute of play.
  • McKenna Feller rocketed a free kick from midfield finding Ashton Barkey who knocked the ball past McCutcheon and into the back of the net, extending the Scots' lead to two goals.
  • Less than two minutes later, Gordon's Lexi Potter used some shifty footwork to create space before chipping in the Scots' third score of the day.
  • Holding onto their 3-0 lead in the second half, Gordon keeper Kali Denty made a diving stop in the 57th minute and later denied a point-blank shot by Leah Yucius (Fr./Duxbury, Mass.) eight minutes later to preserve the shutout and 3-0 Gordon victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Today's shutout win is the Scots' first shutout victory over RWU since 2004.
  • Lexi Potter is tied for first place in the CCC in goals with 11 on the season.
  • Gordon continued conference play on Saturday, October 26 as they host Salve Regina at 2:45 p.m.
