Gordon Men's Cross Country raced to a sixth place finish at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships at Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island today.
Leading the way for the Fighting Scots was rookie sensation
Evan Page who was the first Gordon runner to cross the finish line, racing to a third-place finish with a time of 26:16.1. Additionally, Page was tabbed as the CCC Rookie of the Year and the men's team as a whole earned the Team Sportsmanship Award.
The Scots'
William Hunt crossed the line at 27:30.92 for a 19th place finish, and with a time of 27:55.58,
Sebastian Toro was the 28th runner to cross the finish line (third Fighting Scot). Rounding out the top-five for Gordon were
Cameron Abbot who came in 37th with a time of
28:26.07, and Joseph Tibbles' time of 29:33.22 for a 62nd place finish. Page's time was the fastest time for a Gordon freshman in school history on the 8k course as well as the overall third fastest time in school history. Hunt, Toro, and Abbot also slid into the Top 30 in school history at 14, 21, and 30, respectively. Overall, the men recorded an astounding 15 season bests on the day.
The University of New England had five runners finish in the top 15 to register a score of 38 and capture its second-straight CCC title. UNE junior
Jake Hickey (Winthrop, Maine) led the field in the eight-kilometer race for the second year in a row, earning his second straight CCC Runner of the Year honor in the process. He crossed the finish line in 24:50, more than a minute in front of the second place finisher. That second place finisher was Hickey's Nor'easter teammate
Anthony Chase (Gorman, Maine) who took 26:00 to complete the 8K trek. UNE's other three scorers were also All-Conference performers (finishing in the top 15) with
Donovan Duffy (North Waterboro, Maine) and
Chris DeYoung (Kingston, N.H) placing 10th and 11th, respectively and
Alec Walker (Belchertown, Mass.) taking the 14th place spot. Their head coach
Ron Ouellette earned his second consecutive, and third overall, men's cross country Coach of the Year honor.
Wentworth took second place at this year's championship, landing three runners on the All-Conference Team and posting a team score of 76. The Leopards' top runner this year was Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) who ranked fifth with a time of 26:42. His teammates Will Allen (West Hartford, Conn.) and Patrick Heavey (Mansfield, Mass.) were also in the top 10 as they finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
Nichols placed third in this year's race with 82 points, led by three All-CCC competitors. Senior Joseph Santese (Danielson, Conn.) was the lead runner for the Bison, earning a fourth place finish. His teammates Christopher Kimball (Pepperell, Mass.), an All-Conference performer in 2018, and Shawn Tobin (Bennington, Vt.) also finished in the top 15 at sixth and 15th, respectively.
Two Endicott runners were recognized as All-CCC runners this year, helping the Gulls rank fourth at this year's meet. They were Will Connelly (Barrington, R.I.), who placed seventh, and Adam Germaine (Guilford, Conn.), who finished 13th.
Roger Williams, this year's championship host, rounded out the top five with 103 points. Connor Hayden (Cumberland, R.I.) was the Hawks' top performer, finishing 12th as the hosts' only All-Conference honoree.
First-year runner Page was this year's bronze medalist and Rookie of the Year. He led Gordon to a sixth place team finish. The Fighting Scots were also the recipients of the Team Sportsmanship award.
Western New England and Salve Regina rounded out the field in seventh and eighth place, respectively. The Seahawk's Riley Rancourt (Warren, R.I.) was voted the CCC Scholar-Athlete.
