In the final contest of 2019, Gordon College Women's Basketball traveled to Waltham, Massachusetts to square off against the Judges of Brandeis University where the Judges used a strong fourth quarter to defeat the Fighting Scots by a score of 67-52. With the win, Brandeis improves to 9-1 while the Scots drop to 6-4 on the season.
For Gordon,
Meghan Foley registered 26 points and a trio of steals,
Sarah Gibbs had 10 points and as many rebounds, while
Olivia Gagnon added eight points in the effort.
Hannah Nicholson spearheaded the win for the Judges with 20 points, while Francesca Marches (Fr./Staten Island, N.Y. ), Camila Casanueva (Jr./Santa Barbara, Calif.), and Lauren Rubinstein (Sr./Southbury, Conn.) had 10, nine, and eight points, respectively.Â
How It Happened
- The Scots and Judges went point for point in the early going before Gibbs gave Gordon their first lead of the day (11-10) with 54 ticks left in the first quarter before Rubinstein drained a three-pointer to put the home team up by two heading into the second.
- Foley scored 11 of the Scots' 13 points in the second, going 2-4 from behind the arc to tie it up at 24-all heading into halftime.
- The Judges netted a pair of layups to open up the third before Foley put the Scots' within one as the senior drove to the hoop for the bruise and the bucket at the 6:48 mark.
- However, Brandeis found their rhythm offensively to lead by as many as 11 before Gordon cut the deficit to six heading into the final frame.
- Gordon came out fighting in the fourth closing the gap to 49-51 with five minutes to go in regulation. The Judges took care of business for the next five minutes going on a 16-3 run to take the game, 67-52.
