Nor'easters' Second Half Thunders Past Scots

In the opening round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Basketball Tournament, the seventh-seeded Gordon College Women's Basketball saw their season come to an end after falling to the second-seeded University of New England this evening by a score of 64-39. The Fighting Scots conclude the season with an 8-18 record overall.

The Fighting Scots' effort was guided by Abby Vampatella who netted 16 points and grabbed eight boards, Brooke Dyson who added 10 points and four boards, while Alisha Henderson chipped in eight points and four assists.

For the Nor'easters, Jocelyn Chaput (Jr./Nashua, N.H.) led the way with 23 points, Sadie Nelson (Jr./Windham, Maine) netted 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Allie Goodman (Fr./Durham, Maine) had 10 points and six boards in the win.

How It Happened
  • Sarah Gibbs hit a jumper mid-way through the first to trail 5-8 before UNE went on to score nine unanswered to lead 17-7 going into the second.
  • Dyson and Vampatella took turns from three-point land in the second, but the Nor'easters had an answer for them all it seemed, holding the Scots to a comfortable 32-20 lead going into halftime.
  • The Scots kept fighting back, scoring 10 to UNE's 11 points in the third including a pair of Henderson three-pointers. UNE's Nelson scored seven of her team's 11 points in the frame.
  • A Brooke Dyson three to open up the final quarter got the Scots within ten early. However, the home team scored 13 unanswered points to take a commanding 62-35 lead with 2:17 to go in regulation. The Nor'easters grabbed the eventual 25-point win to advance in the tournament.
